14th Annual Catfish Tournament 

The Glen Elder Dam / Waconda Lake Association's 14th annual catfish tournament was held Saturday, August 10 with 13 teams participating. Only 5 fish were figured in for the total fish weight. 1st place team with 45.20 lbs of fish and winning $130.00 and a plaque was Cecil Miller and his Grandson Brad Miller, Jr, Cawker. 2nd place team with 44.40 lbs and winning $65.00 and a plaque was Fred McMillen, Wichita and Bill Loomis, Jewell. 3rd place team with 32.70 lbs and winning $39 was John Stoeber, Jewell and Mike Stoeber, Salina. 4th place with 31.95 lbs, winning $26 was Slim and Tricia Hughes, Wellington, MO. 


There was also a Big Fish Contest with every team participating. The winner was Brad Miller, Jr, Cawker winning $130 and a plaque for his 11.12 lb fish. 

Chairman of the event was Cecil Miller, Cawker City.

1st Annual  Poor Man's Walleye Tournament

The Glen Elder Dam / Waconda Lake Association's  1st annual Poor Man's Walley Tournament was held Sunday, June 9 with 15 teams participating.  1st place team with  15.0 lbs of fish and winning  a plaque and $150.00 was Jeff Roberts and Garry McGinnis, Concordia.  2nd place team with 11.50 lbs and winning a plaque and $75.00 was Wayne and Judy Hyman, Smith Center. 3rd place team with 9.34 lbs and winning $45 was Robert and Gina Chitty, Beloit.  4th place with 8.56 lbs and winning $30 was Bob Foos and Cecil Miller, Cawker City. 

There was a Big Walleye Contest with 14 teams participating.  The winner was Robert Chitty, Beloit, winning a plaque and $70 for his 3.16 lb fish.  There was also a Big Drum Contest with 13 teams participating.  The winner was Charlene Abell, Beloit, winning a plaque and $65 for her 2.68 lb drum. 

Event chairmen were Roger Hardaway, Concordia and Ron Sporleder, Beloit, with Janice Miller assisting.

4th Annual Crappie Tournament

The 4th annual Glen Elder Dam/Waconda Lake Association's Crappie Tournament was held Sunday, May 12, 2013.   Eight teams participated in the event.

1st place was Roger and Tina Hardaway of Concordia, winning $80.00 for 25.86 lbs.   Tina also won the Biggest Fish Contest, winning $80.00 for a 2.40 lb crappie.  2nd place team was Kyle Krier and Nathan Krier, of Concordia, winning $40 with 22.94 lbs.  3rd place went to Scott Waters, of Beloit, and Frank Burwell of Concordia, winning $24.00 with 21.22 lbs. 2013 - 4th place went to David Gieber and Nathan Gieber of Concordia, winning $16.00 with 21.04 lbs.

At the end of the tournament, Emmett Howg, representing his family from Alton, KS, presented the Waconda Lake Association with $730 for a donation in memory of their husband and father Art Howg who recently passed away.  They said he loved this lake and loved to fish and hunt here. 

Chairman for the event was Roger Hardaway, assisted by Janice Miller.

WLA Serves Youth Lunch
The Waconda Lake Association was proud to host lunch for dozens of youth who participated in this year's Waconda Lake Youth Fishing Tournament, an annual event sponsored by the Kansas Dept. of Wildlife & Parks.
2013 Habitat Workdays
Over 400 trees were used to refresh the man-made, underwater fish habitat brushpiles west of the Cawker City causeway (far west end of the lake) and off Glen Elder State Park Camp Ground #3.
